Genes identified as cycling

In order to explore the differences between the cell cycles of HeLa and foreskin fibroblast cells, we reanalyzed Whitfield's data using the same criteria employed in our data analysis. A gene was defined as cycling if it passed a threshold in at least two out of the four datasets analyzed (two from each study; see methods). This integrated analysis of both studies resulted in three groups of genes; two of which contain genes identified using the new microarray experiments reported in this paper. The first was a group of genes cycling in both primary foreskin fibroblasts and HeLa data sets, which we termed common (362 genes) and the second were genes cycling only in primary foreskin fibroblasts, termed primary FF (118 genes).
